The Incredible Shrinking Chiropractor

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

By Tim Langley Over a period of several years, I had gained a lot of weight over the last several years. It’s funny in an odd, sad kind of way that while I would be talking to the public about health and a wellness lifestyle, I was doing so while being significantly overweight. It’s obvious that the message that was REALLY getting out to the public was that while I might be a nice guy and that the message SOUNDED good, that I either didn’t believe what I was preaching or at least not living it fully. Like most folks, one day I reached a point where I had to honestly face the man in the mirror and say “Enough!” We all reach that point at different times and with different circumstances. Sometimes, it might be weight or other health issues, financial matters or even personal or spiritual issues. But, we all have (or will have) those moments. So one day, I chose one of those infomercials that I KNEW to be more rational and scientific than the others and went to work. I’m glad to tell you that, so far, I’ve lost 35 pounds! Now, I’ve still got a a good bit more to lose, but it’s coming off almost effortlessly. Maybe the difference this time is that my resolve is not as much to lose the weight but to LIVE how I want to be living in my 80s and 90s, active and healthy. One of the things that I’m enjoying is working out again. There’s something special about the FEELING of muscle under your skin. Maybe it’s a guy thing. But, it gives you a sense of power. And, that feeling of power affects the way you approach every other aspect of your life. The other thing I really enjoy about this program is that it’s neither starvation, faddish nor unrealistic. It’s a reasonable food plan that encourages you to simply eat what you like that is GOOD for you and avoid what is NOT. Oh yeah, the program also encourages you to do a simple routine of resistance exercise that you can do at home or at work. It’s the increased muscle that burns those calories 24 hours every day, even while you sleep. One of the things I’m learning through this journey is that losing weight can be simple and that it can be done. The hardest part is simply starting. Once underway, the challenge is to focus on what your objective is while trying not to think about what you’re sacrificing. By changing your lifestyle instead of just trying another diet, you can change your life. ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Dr. Tim Langley is a chiropractor, economist and business consultant. The Jesus Conspiracy

Monday, July 30th, 2007

By Robert Baird For archaeomythologists and researchers like myself there is an abundance of value in the Bible. It is a veritable gold-mine of insight to our ancient past and the people who built the Great Pyramid in honor of their ancestors and a worldwide Brotherhood. It is in fact written by them and it is coded to relay many of their ancient myths that they used to manage their people and colonies. Many things mentioned in the Bible are not yet re-created by science unless the black ops people have succeeded with things they took from Freuds student Wilhelm Reich and others I have addressed in other books. The Logos and String Theory or Harmonics and all so many great technologies that did not require materialistic attitudes are there. Tesla said he found the egis of his wireless system in Revelations. That is the man who brought us AC electricity, neon, Niagara Falls hydroelectric power, and the radio among many other things black ops are still working on. Hermeneuts and Bible scholars or interpreters galore have and still disagree over the meaning of the Bible as well as the meaning in many of the excerpts they argue about. It is most difficult to actually know what the message of Jesus was sometimes when you listen to all the pulpit-pounders or proselytes. Clearly there are many myths in the Bible and some of the passages if followed religiously would lead to Armageddon and cannibalism as well as all manner of pornographic and perverse acts. Wait a minute! What am I saying? That is what goes on in the land they call Holy that has so many holes caused by bullets as well as the other kind of holes. Pardon me if I get a little too passionate or crude for your sensibilities as I detail the War on Women these misogynists have wrought from the time of Moses and Abraham with his baby-factories or harems. I hope that I can convey the positive message of Jesus and what his title means even though I am not going to focus on that as much as I am trying to place some political questions about various intrigues in front of the reader. I will take excerpts from my many other books including a very positive portrayal and semi-fiction called The Early Life of Jesus. I believe I have been motivated and inspired by the message of Jesus for most if not all of my life. In fact I have studied what he studied even though there is no school for these things in our present day. I have studied it long and hard for at least three decades. I live it now and for the last few years since 1999. I can attest to the fact that Malcolm Muggeridge was right about what would happen to Jesus if he was alive today. But I do not believe in Messiahs or any of the myths that pre-date Jesus. Those myths like the only begotten make it easy for people to do whatever they want and simply confess, testify, or pay-off the priestly politicos. The House of David has been part of secret trade and the use of sorcery and power for many millennia but it was Rome that ramped up the program to its Dark Age and Crusading nature. Product Position: Why Is It Important?

Sunday, July 29th, 2007

By Crystal Vilkaitis Product Positioning is very important in the marketing world. Think about a product, lets say a car. Now try thinking about a clothing brand or a certain food. What came to your mind? The reason those products came to your mind is because of those products positioning. For some reason those products stuck with you, and that is because of the marketing strategies behind the products. Why is Product Positioning Important? It is important for long-term success for your company because it will make your product memorable and also make your product desired by your market segments. A company will position a product, which means that they are trying to create an image or an identity in their targeted markets mind. This can be done for their product, brand or organization. The company creates what they want their market to think and feel about the product, which establishes their perception of the brand image. Businesses do this so their segments become familiar with the product and recognize it based off of the position. This goes hand and hand with brand image because through positioning a company is creating a brands image. However, the hard part is that a company needs to try to create a desired position. If this is achieved then the company has the position that is desired by the target market, which will most likely increase the success of the company. But if a company fails to create the desired position then the target market will not value the image and the product, and this could lead to losing consumers to a competitor that has a valued image. A company needs to create a desired position for their product, brand or organization. This can be achieved through perceptual mapping. Perceptual mapping is a method marketers use to visually display and measure the perceptions of consumers or potential consumers to develop a products position. In general, the products position is displayed comparative to their competition. This is an important technique that should be used by marketers when deciding a products position. It is important because it identifies what the competition is doing, what consumers perceptions are of that market, and how one could successfully fit in that market to become desired by consumers. Although the research needed for perceptual mapping might be extensive and time consuming, it is worth it. A successful product position could create long-term success for a company and produces continual desire for the product by consumers. Apple’s New iPhone Information

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Christopher_Meinck]Christopher Meinck With Apple’s major success with their iPod, the most popular form of MP3 player, they were sure to expand and come out with their own version of a cell phone. Apple has dominated the industry of MP3 players and has managed to sell millions of iPods all over the world, along with millions of songs through their own online music store. The cell phone industry has evolved and so has the technology. Nearly every single cell phone comes equipped with a screen that plays video, and a camera. Apple’s newer versions of the iPod have screen that have the ability to play videos. Now Apple has taken their popular and advanced technologies to the next level with the iPhone, combining the functions of a cell phone, Internet communication device, as well as a “wide screen” iPod with easy to use touch controls. Apple made their iPhone exclusive to AT&T and Cingular, which means these phone companies are the only two who can offer you service for your iPhone. The Apple iPhone is supposed to be released sometime in June. It will be interesting to see the other companies and manufacturers scramble to make their own version of the iPhone. The Apple iPhone will run on the most recent MAC operating system for its Internet and video functions. It also comes equipped with a 2 megapixel camera and has the ability to run Google maps, conference calling, text, and multimedia messaging. These are all must have functions for anyone on the go these days, especially the younger generation. The iPhone will also have Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity, as well as Email software and a browser. The new iPhone will have a combination of the latest, most popular technologies. In fact it doesn’t have a keypad at all, except for a “home” button. The controls are operated on a 3.5 inch square touch screen. Many pre-release reviews of the iPhone are positive and say that the photo and video quality is amazing. There is basically one giant touch screen that you use to control the phone, the picture component, and the videos. You will never have to use a stylus again! When you want to send a text message to someone you can use the onscreen keyboard which is also controlled by touch. Apple will be offering a 4GB version of the iPhone for the price of $499 with a two year contract. If you want to double your space then you can go with the 8GB version of the iPhone for the low price of $599, only $100 more than the 4GB. To some these may seem like expensive phones, but when you really think about it iPod’s run you about $300. Then you add on the costs of a cell phone. Apple can charge this because there are going to be many dedicated Apple fans that will have no problem spending that much money on an Apple iPhone. Gardening on a Budget

Tuesday, July 17th, 2007

By JoMarie Thomson When we moved into our south Anchorage log home I had glorious plans for the 1/3 acre lot. Some previous owner had chopped down every tree counting on the neighboring woodlands for green and shade. The house was near the street with a lumpy hilly and narrow backyard that ended in the neighbor’s goat pen. I was young, enthusiastic and confident that my green thumb could transform our piece of Alaska into a glorious landscaped garden. Now, 20 years later the neighborhood has evolved from birch/spruce woods to suburban sprawl and I’m still working on the transformation and enjoying every season. It was very important in those early days, to work on the cheap. With 5 small children the vegetable garden was more important than ornamentals. Composting was the only way I could afford to enrich a flower bed. What was once a necessity became a passion - creating self-sustaining perenial flowerbeds for less than $20/year. Twenty years later, my garden is still a work in progress. I can and do spend money on plants now. And yet, gazing at my sitting garden I’m surrounded by the memories of those early days and the decendents of the first little slips of green I nurtured so carefully. Zone 3 gardening on a budget isn’t as hard as it sounds. I started with a small clump of siberian iris that grew in the loose gravel driveway that first spring. One clump became 5, 5 became 10 and every year my irises are the center point of the growing season. With a little luck I won’t have to divide my irises for a few more years, but think I know where I can add the next batch… Near the front porch a shock of Maltese Cross is in full bloom. I rescued 3 plants from the woodpile behind the shed that first year, not knowing what they would be or how tall they would grow when cared for. I get more comments and compliments on these reclaimed wildflowers than any of the exotics I’ve tried. In the enriched bed, my Maltese Cross grow 3 feet tall with fist sized red flower clusters. Over the years, I’ve easily divided these plants and use them effectively in my borders. More treasures that first year included a rosebush that had been nearly choked to death by siberian peas. We’ve called it a sitka rose but can’t be sure. She’s now a mother many times over as we’ve helped deliver healthy suckers that have grown into shrubs nearly 5 feet tall and more around. Daisy’s of course were and continue to be a beautiful pest. My oldest son took over a small “daisy garden” that I was threatening to burn to the ground. Not that he had to do anything more than help me keep the daisy’s from taking over the rest of the yard, flower and garden beds! The second summer I used my budget at a close out table from a nursery in early July. By July, nurseries have little selection and many of the plant markers have disappeared. However, this is my favorite time to shop for plants because the mark downs are practically giving plants away. Every year since, I’ve added some treasure from one of these sales. The first was a spreading Veronica (who knows what variety), that grows so prolifically, I can use them for garden trades every year. The third summer I discovered wildflower seed mix. That was the end of bare spots for my yard and provided the original plants that have now been moved to more organized and cared for beds. Columbine, forget-me-nots, lupin, and several varieties of poppies continue to thrive and surprise me. My favorite plants are are the one’s that were free or practically free. The frugal gardener can find dozens of ways to create a sea of color without spending any green. Some of my most successful tips include: Recover/rescue. Abandoned gardens often have plants that will thrive with a transplant and a bit of loving attention. Divide and conquer. As your established plants spread, find new homes for their babies. Trading Treasures. When you divide a favorite plant, set aside some of the babies to trade with other gardeners. Search the sales. Your garden is a process that usually takes years. Don’t think your planting season is over just because summer’s nearly over. Hit the nurseries throughout August for a great deal. Beautification programs. Every once in a while, communities and businesses will sponsor giveaways that can really payoff. We’ve added several trees from Arbor Day and Earth Day programs. A word of caution though. Many areas have laws prohibiting you from digging up native plants from wilderness areas. These natural habitats are not free-for-alls and should be left alone. When in doubt, call the appropriate government agency and ask. While I don’t “steal” from state parks, I’ve been given the go ahead to “rescue” lilacs, rubarb, and other abandoned plants from city land taken by eminent domain before a road or bike path was constructed. Your patch of yard can become a garden no matter how tight your budget. Just get a bit creative and never be afraid to ask for cuttings. Compost for black gold and remember to think long term. You’ll never be poor when you live surrounded by flowers. JoMarie Thomson was transplanted to Alaska over 25 years ago. Resolving Conflict without Tearing Your Spouse to Shreds

Sunday, July 15th, 2007

By Brandi Simon There are few things that can damage a marriage or any relationship for that matter than lack of conflict resolution skills. I tend to be quite aggressive and have left my husband wondering what just hit him when I get going with a verbal attack. Then on the opposite end of the spectrum you have the quite types who hold their hostilities inside and never even verbally voice what is bothering them instead choosing to act their frustrations out in inappropriate ways. So, what are we to do? How can we resolve our conflicts allowing both partners the opportunity to speak without interruption and without being beaten to a pulp by our words? There is one technique and only one that has worked in my family. This was introduced to us by a dear friend and Christian mentor when my husband and I were going through our most difficult times. Our good friend had us sit across from each other at the table so that we could acknowledge by our eye contact that our attention was fully on the other person. Since I was the one that actually called for the meeting I started. I talked and explained what was bothering me. When my husband interrupted our dear friend gave him a piece of paper and a pen and told him to write it down for when it was his turn. After I got everything out, it was his turn to respond to what I had said. I attempted to interrupt and our friend did the same to me. I had to hold my comments till he was finished then it was my turn again. This went on until each of us had nothing further to say. Quite frankly, this was the first time in 10 years of marriage that I felt like we actually resolved something and that I was actually heard and understood by my husband. My husband got the benefit of being heard himself since I usually interrupt him and he wasn’t subjected to my harsh belittling words. This way of communicating may seem a little strange to you but if you will only give it a try it can work wonders in your ability to resolve conflicts in your marriage. Lovers After Marriage - Do They Change?

Saturday, July 14th, 2007

By Michael Russell This is the question that many people ask themselves over and over again. The answer is always the same - NO. No, they will not change: No, things will not get better. This is not said to be mean; it’s just the reality. At the start of a relationship, most people are looking for someone they can spend their lives with so being picky is not necessarily a bad thing. The problems actually arise when people are not picky enough. When searching for a mate, people will often find themselves settling for someone they do not really want. Sure, the person might look great on the outside, but is that enough to sustain a lifetime? You have to be with someone you genuinely like. Physical attraction is also important, but the truth is, sexual habits tend to change after marriage. That brings me to the main point. Sex might change, but it’s about the only thing that does. Women in particular are often guilty of falling for a man, loving him, telling him how wonderful he is, but deep down hoping that he’ll change. I don’t mean little things like him leaving the toilet seat up (though that can be a hard habit to break). I’m talking about the big issues. One of the best (and I’m sorry to say most common) examples I can give is alcoholism. A woman falls in love with an alcoholic, goes out with him, parties with him, but suddenly expects it to stop after marriage. I hate to burst anyone’s bubble, but that is not how it works. Problems like that don’t go away after marriage. The truth is that they often get worse. The fault in all this, however, does not lie with the person being asked to change. Whatever bad habits he/she might have, the problems were always there. The person had them from the beginning, so why should he/she be forced to change? The answer is simple-he/she shouldn’t. People do not come with guarantee stickers or warranties. When you marry someone, it’s an AS IS transaction. There are always going to be problems in every marriage. Nobody is perfect: Keep this in mind when you are evaluating your relationship. Perfection (or the closest thing to it) comes with much time in a marriage. And it’s not a matter of either person changing; it’s a matter of getting used to the things about each other that bug you. And that’s not to say that these things won’t still bug you twenty five years down the road, but they won’t seem as important then. In a nutshell, if your relationship or your partner has problems that you don’t think you can live with, get out now. Marriage is hard enough without bringing unrealistic expectations into it (not to mention the disappointment and resentment that can occur when those expectations aren’t met). People don’t change just because they say I do and their partners shouldn’t expect them to. Marriage is about living with and loving the person you are with, not the person you hope they will become. If you are waiting for someone else to show up, then do that. and let the person you are with go.
