A Wedding Shower Checklist

Thursday, October 18th, 2007

By Claire Bowes Bridal showers are one of many pre-wedding parties and are great fun. They are known as parties with a purpose. The purpose of a shower is to assist the couple in equipping their new home or for the bride to assemble a trousseau. Not only that, but they are a good excuse for the bride to get together with her friends and family to play hilarious games and to enjoy the food and wine. Did you know that a trend has started for couples showers? This is sometimes termed as the Jack and Jill shower where you shower both the bride and groom with gifts and good wishes. Either way, if you are having a traditional shower party for just the bride, or decide to have a couples shower, then the planning and the checklist will invariably be the same. Here is an outline of a wedding shower checklist to get you on your way to organising a great shower party. Who should host the shower? Traditionally the maid of honour tends to plan the shower party. But today, anything goes and it is perfectly acceptable for both family and friends to work together to organize, host and share the cost of the wedding shower. It doesnt really matter who actually hosts the party as long as it is planned well in advance and normally in consultation with the bride. If the shower is planned to be in someones home, then its always a good idea to choose the person with the largest home or garden. When to have your party Because of the busy schedule the bride and her family will have in the lead up to her wedding, it is best to hold the shower about four to six weeks before the wedding. A growing trend is that more wedding showers are no longer a surprise and statistics show that 4 out of 5 brides are employed, therefore it is necessary to include the bride in the planning when it comes to setting a date and time. A traditional girl-only party could be a Sunday brunch, a midweek lunch or an afternoon tea garden party. Couples showers are best held on a weekend day or evening. The majority of people tend to work between 9-5 Monday-Friday, therefore a weekend is a safe bet in that most of the couples friends and relatives can attend. If you are having a shower party with work colleagues, then the ideal time would be in your lunch hour or straight after work. Who to invite Apart from your family members, the host should invite people you know well whether it be friends, relatives or work colleagues. You dont want to invite too many people, as a large group tends to split off in small separate groups. You want everyone to interact with each other and be a manageable size for everybody to play the hilarious shower games and not feel left out. Taking all this into consideration, a comfortable shower should involve about 10-20 people. You dont necessarily need to buy expensive shower invitations. Another growing trend is that many brides are doing their wedding research on the Internet. The internet has opened up many cheaper avenues and you can now get some great printable-wedding-shower-invitations. These invitations are customized with your own wording and design, and are printed directly from your own printer. Whats your Theme? As with the actual wedding, it is wise to choose a theme before sending out the invitations. The theme can then be used throughout the shower and incorporated in with the invitations, decorations, favors and refreshments. There are literally dozens of topics for a shower party theme. The most popular is the kitchen theme as there are endless pieces of equipment and accessories you can buy for the kitchen. The host knows the bride well and will surely fit a theme around either what the bride and groom need, or their lifestyle. For example if the happy couple are both into health and fitness, then a fitness theme could be an option. One good idea for a couples shower is a wine tasting theme. This is ideal for a Saturday night party and I am sure the men will enjoy this one and easily get into the swing of things! Food, Favors and Games Food: It depends on the theme and location for which type of food to prepare. For example, if you are holding a wine tasting theme, then a finger buffet with crackers, nuts and other nibbles goes down well with wine. If you are holding a garden shower party, consider light finger food - cheeses, crackers, fresh fruit, mini-quiches, blueberry cream puffs, crab dip and a bacon, egg and cheese casserole and salads. Favors: Some people choose not to give shower favors. It really depends on where you live and if it is a tradition in your area or not. If you do, you dont have to go overboard with favors if you want to keep the expense down. Give something small and useful like a scented candle. Most people like scented candles and they are practical. A potpourri satchel is another welcome and practical idea. Games: Everyone should be included in the shower games. Shower party games are a great ice-breaker for people to get to know each other. Games can include bridal shower bingo as this is always a big hit as is whats in the bag (memory game). Trivia questions about the bride and groom or making a wedding dress with toilet paper are all fun games to be had. Thank You Cards: Normally a simple thank-you was enough, but today, with showers being larger and guests busier, a personal note is the only way to make sure that sincere appreciation is expressed. Summary Bridal showers are meant to be fun. They do need a lot of planning and organization in advance, but they are worth it. The bride and groom receive practical gifts for their home, and shower partys are a great excuse to get together with friends and family to have one whale of a time! Stop and Go Marketing

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007

By Beth Woodward Stop and Go marketing and ENERGY go hand in hand. Stop and Go marketing says what it is. We go out to market for time periods and then we get busy with our work and stop marketing. Here is the problem with that. Using the example of a funnel filled with clients and business contacts, when we stop marketing the funnel becomes empty over a time period. When the clients dry up we go back to our funnel, which is empty and once again, we panic and rush out to market. Are you familiar with the word and concept of retention? It means keeping your current clients rather than losing them and having to find new ones. It costs a company quite a bit less to keep a customer than it does to go get a new one. With marketing your business, it takes quite a bit less energy to keep the flow of contacts and clients coming through the funnel than it does to have the funnel empty only to begin again. Here is a great example of a metaphor that we experience everyday. I was on the way to my hair appt this month. I chose to take the side roads rather than the freeway. I noticed with each block I had to either take my foot off the gas and slow down to yield or I had to come to a complete stop. In any case, I was using more gas to get moving again. At each stop I noticed two types of moving forward. I could either push on the gas slowly to continue or I had to peel out to beat the traffic. Either way I had to start again from a stop. Had I taken the freeway (after rush hour) my drive would have been consistent and I would have used less gas. Or, in marketing terms, less energy. Are you marketing… * on the side roads or * the freeway? Consistency will keep your marketing funnel filled and you will have more energy to put into your business. There is a perspective and a truth to a statement I heard from a successful business owner. Marketing is your job. What you “do” is the cherry on top. What he’s saying is this. When you are not out “doing” your business, you should be marketing. Keeping that focus, your funnel will be filled and you will not experience Stop and Go Marketing. There are many other reasons we stop our marketing. Here are a few from entrepreneurs like yourself. * I don’t know how. We can actually stop marketing for a while and then we think we don’t know how. This reaction can stem from the next bullet point. * Fear. If it’s been a while since we have marketed that ‘freezing up’ syndrome can creep back in. TRUST yourself — you DO know how! * Frustration. It’s not working. Have you tried something for a while and itdoesn’t seem to be working. That’s what marketing can be — a trial and error with our services and products. After a while you will learn what works and what doesn’t with each piece that you offer. Once you find what works, STICK TO IT! * No Time. We’re working so hard and such long hours, there is no time to get out and meet new contacts. Suggestion: Create a short block of time to address envelopes to previous clients. Put stamps on them with your return address label. Have your note cards next to your envelopes. Take a break and jot a quick handwritten note to say hello and send it off. You have continued your marketing and keeping your funnel filled. * I don’t have a plan. Part of planning is having a plan that fits your style. Not everyone works well from Structured Plan A. You might need a more creative plan. Something fun that will keep you motivated and focused. That is the key, motivation and focus along with a plan that fits your style. Let’s summarize. Stop and Go Marketing… * Drains our funnel of contacts as well as our energy. * Creates reactions of: I don’t know, Fear, Frustration, No time, No plan Consistent Marketing… * Keeps our contact funnel filled which gives us a nice flow of customers and income * Keeps the negative reactions away and promotes energy Remember, we all need to market in order to have a financially success business. It’s your choice on how you want to market and what type of approach and plan will help you succeed with ease, energy and excitement. Flat Irons Work Better With The Perfect Blowout

Monday, October 15th, 2007

By Michelle Mooney Starting with clean damp hair, before you use any appliance that generates heat, you should generously spritz a heat styling protectant all over your hair to protect it from the excessive heat and to also add additional moisture, volume and shine. After thoroughly spraying the protectant from roots to ends, you are ready to begin blow-drying. You should section your hair off into manageable 1 to 2 inch pieces. Start by parting your hair down the center from the front to the back of your head, gently pull each section to either side, and secure each side with a clip. Then take each side section and divide it into 2 pieces, above your ear and below, again securing the remaining sections above your ears with more clips so this hair is out of your way until you are ready to style it. Continue creating smaller sections and securing them out of the way until you are left with a section of hair that is easy to work with, and is small enough to fit into the brush you are using. A good, round ionic brush is recommended to generate negative ions. The negative ions are created from the heat of the blow dryer. Once generated, they enable the moisture to be sealed into the hair cuticle. This increased amount of ionic energy allows the brush to slip through your hair without pulling or snagging. Using a round barrel ceramic/ionic bush, take a small section (about 1 inch wide) and starting with the back of your hair at the ends, roll the section of hair loosely around the brush up towards the roots. Holding the dryer with the nozzle pointed at the hair section about 2 inches away, slowly pull the brush and the dryer down the section to the ends, and continue going over this section until its completely dry. Working your way around your head from back to front, keep sectioning off and blow-drying each piece, until your hair is completely finished. Its important to blow-dry your hair first to prepare it for styling. A good blow out gives your hair the smooth, perfect base needed for styling with any flat iron. Michelle J. Rejuvenating Technology for Skin and Body!

Saturday, October 13th, 2007

By Ansie Earle Currently, tremendous interest and research are being focussed on anti-oxidants and their role in helping to reverse and prevent free radical damage to the body. Enzymes and anti-oxidants protect the body against the harmful effects of these free oxygen radicals. The best known of such enzymes is called SOD (super-oxide dismutase). Worldwide studies have shown that people who take anti-oxidants live longer and healthier lives. Anti-oxidants are essential for the removal of free radicals, which can cause premature ageing and can cause diseases such as cancer. Anti-oxidants include vitamin A in the form of beta-carotene, vitamin E, vitamin C and SOD or super-oxide. Because of the polluted environment that we live in, it is not always easy to get access to the natural anti-oxidants like vitamin E and vitamin C. Rooibos Tea, (Redbush Tea) is well known all over the world and regarded as safe to drink for its health benefits. Scientists have discovered that the Rooibos plant (Aspalathus linearis) contains nine types of flavonoids. Four of these flavonoids, specifically quercetin, luteolin, isoquercitrin and rutin are very powerful. Flavonoids like the quercetin found in Rooibos, help to neutralise free radicals and in combination with the teas naturally high Vitamin C content (1,5mg/ml), they act as anti-oxidant compounds thus protecting the body against diseases and premature ageing. Rooibos has Anti-inflammatory and Anti-allergic properties that can be very helpful in the treatment of eczema. Rooibos is also Caffeine free, Rich in Minerals and Low in Tannin. Thanks to Rooibos teas natural powerful, rejuvenating and antioxidant qualities it is also excellent for use in skin and healthcare products. The Annique Rooibos Products contain an Award Winning Rooibos Extract to restore and retard the ageing process. Honeymoons in Exotic Indochina

Friday, October 12th, 2007

By Richard Rspad Getting married should be the single most amazing event in your life. Following it up with a trip to Indochina can cap of the event with a honeymoon you will never, ever forget. Indochina is a term used to describe a portion of Southeast Asia that includes Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. This area is a vacationer’s paradise with its breathtaking beauty, interesting culture and luxurious resorts. Indochina honeymoons are a great way to see this unique part of the world. What better way to share your first vacation together than in an exotic and foreign locale? Indochina is so named because of the influences brought to the area by China (as seen in Vietnam) and India (as seen in Laos and Cambodia). Most of the residents of this area are Buddhists in their religious practices, although each of the countries having their own language and culture. Indochina honeymoons are an excellent way to experience the similarities and unique aspects of each country. Vietnam is a country of rice paddies and mountains with many temples and natural wonders to be seen. Vietnam offers sandy beaches and areas with a private deserted feel perfect for couples who would like to be alone. Bamboo huts welcome visitors with the promise of a unique stay, and locals add a blend of charm and mystery to the area. Cambodia offers its own unique culture with a capital city that is heavily influenced by the earlier colonial rule of the French. A city devastated during the reign of the Khmer Rouge, Phnom Penh has come back so quickly it is hard to imagine the city was actually deserted for three years. A few hours outside of the city by boat lays Siem Riep and the amazing Angkor Wat. Angkor Wat is to Cambodia what the pyramids are to Egypt. Frankly, Angkor Wat is much more impressive if you can believe it. Farther to the south you will find the pristine beaches of Cambodia on the Gulf of Thailand. Sihanoukville is a sleepy little beach town where you can roast in the sun during the day and watch lightning storms over the gulf at night. Although the country is on the rebound, keep in mind there is a certain Wild, Wild West feel to Cambodia. For those looking for the exotic, this is the place. Finally, no trips to Indochina would be complete without seeing Laos. This country is one of the Southeast Asian area’s least developed countries, and also one of the most beautiful. Here, untouched lands allow people to explore the natural scenery and hike the unspoiled trails that grace the area. Laos is still a functional communist country, but the communism practiced is very relaxed. For excitement, you can take river boat cruises, which are akin to sitting in a canoe and going fifty miles an hour over the water. Laos is also the home to many Buddhist sanctuaries. If Buddhism is your thing, welcome to nirvana. Indochina offers newlyweds the chance to start off life together with a trip they will never forget. Prices run in the $3,000 range depending upon the time and luxury you desire. Once in the area, local prices are incredibly cheap given a currency crises that occurred in 1998. You can literally shop till you drop for fine silk, art and practically anything. Richard Rspad is with Resort Spa Destinations - reviews and articles on spa resorts. Feng Shui Interprets Your Garden Features

Thursday, October 11th, 2007

By Kartar Diamond There is a whole branch of classical feng shui which deals with the outside environment. It is called Form School or Landscape School. But outside and inside are forever entwined in terms of how they can affect the occupants. Most people love the sight and sound of a trickling fountain, but there can actually be bad locations according to the most sophisticated feng shui analysis. Some houses need water in the front while others need water in the back. But one generality that will be true until 2024, is that water aligned with the east sector of your property can help attract wealth. How can you know where the east sector of your property is? You absolutely need to use a compass because feng shui utilizes magnetic compass directions and just estimating where east might be is often not good enough. Is there a bad location for water? Yes, one generality is that water aligned with the northeast sector of a house can be undermining for financial luck until 2024. Other general truths about outside water features is that the water itself must be clean and ideally circulating. Stagnant, dirty water is worse than no water at all. As well, it is best when a multi-tiered fountain appears to have the water flowing toward a house and not away from it. Of course, many fountains simply flow from up to down and that is always fine. What about trees? Lush, healthy trees can often be a bonus to any property as long as the tree does not cast a chronic shadow on the house and as long as the tree roots don’t buckle pavement or foundations. People often worry about the pointy edges of plant leaves because of the propogation of some annoying feng shui myths. But most plants are fine. Rose bushes and thorny cactus plants should just be far enough away from foot traffic that they will not poke anyone. Hedges and certainly solid stone walls can help shore up the chi (air currents) that enter and swirl around a property, helping an owner save their money. The house that has no definitive boundaries can make it harder for the occupants to save what they make. Sometimes a house needs a mini-mountain either in the front or the back. How does one know where you need your mini-mountain? This is determined by calculations from advanced classical feng shui and is partly based on when the house was built and what direction it faces. The mini-mountain must be at least a couple feet above ground in order to qualify as mountain energy and an elevated flower bed can be the answer to this need. Mountain energy is good for house types that need extra support for the health and well-being of the occupants. An example of an extremely common house type that needs a “mountain” on the front side of the property is a house type that was built between 1944-1963 that faces magnetic north between 338-352 degrees. (Again, you must use a compass). Another very common house type that needs a mountain on the front side of the property is a house built between 1964-1983 that faces west between 265-290 degrees. Are there any flowers that are superior to others? No. Are there any colors for flowers that are superior to others? No.These are frequent questions that I field all the time from emailers and students because they have heard that a perfect feng shui garden needs certain colors in certain directions around the house. This comes from a whole set of new feng shui myths (”new” as in dreamed up over the last 25 years by authors whose books are thin on really important material) and should not be taken seriously. What are Swinging Clubs?

Tuesday, October 9th, 2007

By Julia Tanner When being on the computer just doesnt do enough for you, then you may want to venture out of the house and find some swinging in person. Unfortunately, not every city has a swingers club. But there are ways to find out whos in the scene, and where you can go. Youd be surprised how much you can find when you ask. Finding your swinging environment The Internet has become the easiest way to find swinging resources in your local community. You can go into any search engine and find whatever you pleasure is. Actually, you may want to get specific as to your fetishes and fantasies. Why not find EXACTLY what youre looking for? Once youve gotten a list of clubs and other swinging locales, then you want to grab your partner and make some phone calls. You need to know what to expect and get all of your personal questions answers. And interestingly enough, a lot of clubs will want to talk to the both of you to see what your intentions are and what their rules state. Many clubs only accept married couples, for example. A lot of beginning couples will also want to ask if the environment is no-pressure or not. You dont want to be too overwhelmed at first. And if the phone call is difficult or you realize that youre having trouble communicating, then you may realize that youre not ready. But lets say that you are. What to expect All swinging clubs are different and have different rules. You want to find out ahead of time what the dress code is and if theres anything that isnt allowed. Men will usually want to avoid jeans and sneakers, while women want to dress to thrill. Be sure to bring your identification with you as well. Some clubs have theme nights and women can have a good time matching their outfits to these fun and creative nights. Once youre in, each club is different. If youre in a pressure-free club, then you can pretty much do whatever feels right to you. Maybe you just want to watch the festivities for the evening. Maybe you want to participate. Just dont feel like you have to. Something to remember If you feel pressured, then youre in a bad situation. You want to have fun your first few times in a swingers club, and then take baby steps to the next, even more hot and exciting level. Being talked into something that you dont want to do is not sexy and makes for uncomfortable next mornings. If you dont want to do something, then say so. No one should question that or make you feel bad for saying no. Most swinging clubs are very good at helping you with any questions that you might have and have employees available if youre just not sure about something. If youre ready to try swinging, then this can be a great way to meet other couples with the same interests and within a safe and supportive environment. Julia has written an amazing swingers minicourse. You can get it absolutely free at http://www.swingersvillage.net . Bipolar Symptoms: The Sadness And The Joy! Faces And Signs Of Manic Depression

Sunday, October 7th, 2007

By Athlyn Green Bipolar symptoms can be likened to a snowstorm: tiny snowflakes drift down until white-out conditions make everything more difficult. A person dealing with manic depressive illness experiences a flurry of troubling feelings and emotions, which make it hard to see the way ahead! It is important to recognize and seek treatment for bipolar disorder symptoms because unlike snowthat melts and dissipates over timethis illness can worsen as the years go by. Facts About Symptoms of Bipolar Disorder Sadness, hopelessness, and helplessness can weigh you down. A loss of interest, and anxiety and fear can make each day a challenge. Loss of sexual interest and inability to experience pleasure from normal activities are challenging bipolar symptoms that can compromise quality of life. Trying to make decisions or concentrating may be difficultespecially if these processes are interrupted by obsessional thoughts. Delusions or hallucinations, or pervasive thoughts of suicide present grave risks. Sleep difficulties and appetite changes, fatigue and lethargy, headaches, and unexplained muscle aches can add to an already trying scenario. When grappling with the foregoing, social withdrawal may seem the easiest course. It is hard to want to interact with others when emotions are so severely affected. The other face of bipolar disorder symptoms is the mania that can interfere with social functioning. Severe overactivity may be expressed in feverish activity, a decreased need for sleep, non-stop talking, flights of ideas, restlessness and agitation, spending sprees, inappropriate sexual conduct, lack of impulse control. Other out-of-control behavior, such as aggression, can be triggered while in this heightened state of arousal. Symptoms of bipolar disorder can be confusing. Some sufferers relate that they are addicted to the highs, and want to remain in that state. This reasoning, at times, has been used to avoid treatment, where everyday living does not necessarily present the same thrills. It is important to remember, though, that when the depressive aspect manifests, the effects can be crippling. Bipolar symptoms respond well to treatment and modern medications offer hope. Usually mood stabilizers will be prescribed in combination with antipsychotic drugs. An antidepressant may be combined with a mood stabilizer. Bipolar disorder symptoms are, at times, addressed by use of electroconvulsive therapy. In spite of negative connotations people associate with this form of treatment, ECT can successfully treat severe depression or mania. At times, people who are suffering from symptoms of bipolar disorder, are resistant to another form of treatment: talk or psychotherapy. Psychotherapy can help to remove the stigma associated with mood disorders and it can be very helpful to know that you are not alone in dealing with this condition. Gaining an understanding of how the human brain can malfunction also removes embarrassment or shame that some feel. For example, many scientists believe that when two key neurotransmitters in the brain, dopamine and serotonin, are affected, bipolar symptoms manifest. Just knowing that neurotransmitters are implicated helps in accepting that this condition is not a sign of personal weakness or is in any way a persons fault. Scientific advances have shed light on natural substances that can help brain functioning. Vitamins and minerals, such as B1 and B6, can help with anxiety and irritability; inositol influences the action of several brain neurotransmitters; phosphatidyl choline, a specialty supplement, plays an essential part in forming acetylcholine, a brain neurotransmitter. Omega 3 fatty acids from fish oils (EPA and DHA) have been shown to be helpful for bipolar disorder symptoms giving the brain substances that are important for proper functioning. The human brain uses and needs DHA. Bipolar symptoms need to be addressed. No one should have to go through life under the eight ballespecially with the varied treatments available. With medical help you can regain control of your emotions and your life. You do not have spend your days as if you were caught in the midst of a snowstorm, trying to see reality through a blurred lens distorted by bipolar disorder symptoms. It is always prudent to check with your doctor regarding any treatments you choose to undertake, in your quest for well being. Your doctor can help you to reduce bipolar symptoms, so that rays of hope replace storm-like days. Aromatherapy How to Use Pure Essential Oils for Healing - Laundry

Friday, October 5th, 2007

By KG Stiles Pure essential oils have a wide range of therapeutic uses and benefits. The method applied can affect the results. In this article I will talk about aromatherapy methods to use for laundry care and cleaning. First, please remember that essential oils should never be applied neat (undiluted) to your skin. There are absolutely NO exceptions to this! This includes the soles of your feet or palms of your hands. When using oils neat for inhalation purposes please exercise care and dispense your oils on a tissue or cotton ball for direct inhalation. LAUNDRY CLEANING AND CARE: WASHER: Add 3-4 drops of Essential Oils to your washing machine. Adding Eucalyptus Globulus Oil to your wash cycle may kill dust mites in your bedding. DRYER: Add 3-4 drops of Essential Oils to a cotton cloth or pad and place in your dryer during the cool down or wrinkle release cycle. Lavender oil will give your bedding and towels a clean, fresh scent. 3-4 drops of Lemon or Sweet Orange oil will remove greasy and oily smells from your laundry. PLEASE NOTE: Using essential oils in your washer may damage plastic, or hard rubber parts. Properly administered essential oils are a natural, safe and effective way to enhance your health and well-being and can produce satisfying results where other methods have failed. Please consult with your physician regarding your health concerns. KG has utilized essential oils in her energy medicine practice for more than 30 years.
